Onura Goes National

Former Mansfield Town frontman Iffy Onura maybe leading a side out at the next world cup, should his stint as national coach of Ethiopia go well over the next few months...

In a surprise move for the former Stags striker, he has signed a one-year deal and his first game in charge will be against Guinea in September.

Ethiopia were looking for a coach with previous experience of the English leagues, and Onuora put his name forward and won the role.

'It will be a challenge, but one I am immensely looking forward to,' he said.

'I have had jobs as an assistant, but I am in charge and at least I will get to do the job my way.

'I have been to watch a few games already and the standard has been impressive.'

Onura played for the Stags between 1994 and 1996, before finally becoming assistant at Lincoln City, and leading Swindon Town for a spell.
