Evans in Dig at Grimsby Support
He is never going to win a popularity contest in the town, but Steve Evan's relationship with the people of Grimsby shows no sign yet of improvement.
Forever unloved for his role in once near rivals Boston United, Evans has had a torrid time whenever one of his teams are playing at Blundell Park, not least last season as the Stags play off push came off the rails and he was sent to the stands, then ended up in the dressing room for his own protection as supports tried to get at him.
He was still in a decent mood to have another dig as his Mansfield Town side secured a 1-1 draw in League 2 on boxing day, with the Stags finishing the game strongly.
Evans told the Grimsby Telegraph "It was very quiet apart from when they scored, but our fans were great and were right behind us. They have seen the performance and the effort from the players.'
Despite taking over 1,300 for the corresponding fixture last season, a mixture of an early kick off and no trains meant the away support was 682 for this fixture.
The game last season was marred by crowd violence in and outside the stadium.
