Cox - We Paid The Price For Errors
Manager Paul Cox has said that Mansfield paid the ultimate price for the errors we made in the game against Notts County last night.
A two nil loss in the first round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy was certainly not what the gaffer envisaged at the first whistle but it was unfortunately reality by the final one.
Speaking to the Official Site at full time, Cox said.
'We were beaten by the better team - simple as that. They seemed to have an extra drive in them, worked extremely hard with the ball, off the ball and they thoroughly deserved the win. We need that bravery in the last third. We need to get hold of the ball, create opportunities and have a shot.'
Cox goes on to say that he felt we started the game well enough but the longer it went on the more control they took and we just didn't have an answer for it, and they ground us down, and the stuff we normally do well, they were just better at by the end.
The biggest annoyance for Cox were the errors we made in the lead up to both of their goals because he knows we can do better than that as we normally do, do better than that - but sloppy play is creeping in.
'There's another scenario where we've just switched off for two goals and sort of let teams stroll through us. We're usually a team that are really resolute and hard to break down, but it's like we're caught between a million and one things at the minute.'
