Cox Delighted With Gritty Newport Win

Cox Delighted With Gritty Newport Win

Mansfield made it back to back victories when we faced Newport County the other day.

Speaking to the Official Site following the one nil win courtesy of Chris Clement's very early strike in the game gaffer Paul Cox explained.

'It was an excellent victory. There were some tired legs out there and we called on a few players to go beyond what's expected of them again, so the boys battled well, it was a tough game and it was nice to keep a clean sheet.'

Cox goes on to say that really in the future he's looking for us to do a lot more in the final third because we made too many wrong decisions as we tried to double our advantage, but even with that said it was a good result, a decent performance and it's difficult to complain about much when you come out 90 minutes with all three points.

'I'm just really pleased with our boys. There were a few running on empty, so it's all credit to them. (Six points from three games) is an excellent return but we're not getting carried away.'

Cox goes on to say that it' a pretty solid start from us given we are the bookies favourites for the drop this season and he feels the lads have let that prediction motivate them, which of course, is the correct response and he's delighted with the 'grit and determination' we are playing with.
